Transfer Talk: United ready to spend ВЈ77m on midfield star

Louis van Gaal reportedly wants Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba's departure from Old Trafford has been seen by many as a rare Sir Alex Ferguson mistake and it may cost them 77million to put right.

Manchester United are set to turn their attention to Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba, according to reports in the Daily Star.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale in the last few months but neither of those deals looks like coming to fruition.

In a bid to strengthen his squad, Louis van Gaal is now preparing a 77million bid for Pogba in the summer.

The Frenchman has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain in the past, but Van Gaal is confident he can snap him up.

Reports suggest United will make their move despite Pogba leaving the club back in 2012 for Juventus. Pogba signed a new contract at Juve in October which is not due to expire until 2019.

Staying with the Daily Star and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he wants striker Yaya Sanogo to join a Premier League club on loan.

Ligue 1 sides Bordeaux and Lorient have been linked with the youngster but Wenger wants the forward to stay in England.

The 21-year-old has been linked with moves to Sunderland, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in the last few weeks.

Sanogo has failed to make a huge impression on Gunners fans since joining from Auxerre and has only scored one goal for the club since his move in 2013.

Wenger said: "I would prefer him to go to a Premier League club. He is a goal scorer, he's not frightened and a guy who is naturally aggressive."

Elsewhere, Liverpool are reportedly leading the race to sign Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Switzerland international has been linked with a move away from the Bavarians for the last 12 months but he remained with the club during the summer.

Shaqiri is also reportedly wanted by Inter Milan and Juventus but Liverpool are in command, according to Sky Italy.

Both Juve and Inter are hoping to agree loans but the Reds want to wrap the deal up in January and that has put them in pole position.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Birmingham City are refusing to sell Demarai Gray unless they receive a big offer in the January transfer window.

Championship leaders Bournemouth have had a 1.5million bid rejected already and Blues boss Gary Rowett is eager to keep hold of his rising star.
