Lays of the Weekend: Wigan to fail in front of their fans

Lay Wigan to beat Huddersfield @ 2.47/5

There isn't a great selection in the Championship this weekend, with the FA Cup stripping the schedule down to just four matches, but thankfully with Wigan priced as favourites at home to Huddersfield, there is still an obvious and irresistible laying opportunity.

The Latics, who 20 months on from winning the FA Cup are five points from safety at second bottom in the Championship, haven't won at their DW Stadium since August, going ten games without success. They are weakened further by having sold Ben Watson to Watford this week and readying Shaun Maloney's departure to Chicago Fire.

Huddersfield have prevailed in two of their most recent three league matches, with their sole setback in that sequence occurring away to second-placed Middlesbrough. They have lost only once in seven meetings with the clubs below them in the table.

Lay Fleetwood to beat Crawley @ 1.834/5

Fleetwood have a less dramatic case of Wigan's hopeless-at-home syndrome, going five games without a win at their Highbury Stadium and losing without scoring in three of those. They also conceded at least twice in each of their latest three encounters as hosts.

Crawley haven't triumphed in 13 outings, but are better than that statistic implies. They have lost just four in 12 in the league and, while their away record is far from brilliant, they have been beaten only once in six trips to sides tenth or lower. They also defeated Fleetwood in the reverse fixture.

Lay Plymouth to beat Morecambe @ 2.021/1

These teams are two places and three points apart in League Two, yet all the current form lines point to the higher of the pair, Plymouth, being the most likely to drop points.

The Pilgrims are winless in five and, even more alarmingly, have scored only once in that sequence. Morecambe by contrast are unbeaten in four and gave up one goal in that period, and that was from the penalty spot. They have won three and drawn one of their five away days at other top-half clubs.
