Lajovic could be a good value underdog on Tuesday
World number one Novak Djokovic is among the stars in action on day two of the Australian Open on Tuesday and tennis expert Sean Calvert is back with his bets for the day in Melbourne...
Day one ended up being a pretty decent one all told by the time play finished, with my first two 'potential first round upsets' providing a couple of nice winners to start the fortnight in Melbourne.
Thanasi Kokkinakis came from match points down to beat Ernests Gulbis after Malek Jaziri had beaten Mikhail Kukushkin in four.
There was also disappointment on Monday when Jan-Lennard Struff let a 2-1 lead slip to lose in five sets to Dudi Sela, while Dustin Brown was never at the races and failed to get close to Grigor Dimitrov in the opening set.
Play gets underway at around midnight UK time - or more likely about 20 past after all the unnecessary delays - and I like the look of the Daily Acca here with Kei Nishikori/Julien Benneteau/Gilles Simon looking the one at around the 1.910/11 mark.
Nishikori faces a rusty Nico Almagro in the first match on Margaret Court Arena and my outright tournament pick should ease through this one against an opponent who's in the early stages of a comeback from injury.
Benny faces Benjamin Becker, who has won just three of his 10 matches in Melbourne, and the German veteran is yet to win a set so far in 2015 in a slow start to the season.
The Frenchman has beaten Becker twice in the past and has a far better record at this tournament than the German, while Simon takes on Robin Haase, who has really struggled with illness in 2015 and appears there for the taking by Gillou.
The last three of my five potential upsets play today and one - Paulo Lorenzi -has already rewarded back-to-lay punters by trading as short as 1.331/3 from the advised 3.185/40 and we just have to hope that Dolgo lasts at least a set with that one now.
Other favourites who look less than solid on Tuesday include Fabio Fognini and Feli Lopez, but I'm not sure that I think enough of their opponents to take them on today.
There are several underdogs that are on my shortlist today and they include Guillermo Garcia Lopez, Jan Hernych, and Dusan Lajovic as three such options.
It's set to be windy again in Melbourne on Tuesday and that while didn't help Brown one bit on Monday it could put one or two off again today.
I can't imagine it helping Sergiy Stakhovsky's net rushing style too much and for me the Ukrainian is too short in price at 1.584/7 against a capable opponent such as Lajovic.
Melbourne has not been a happy hunting ground for Stakho in general, with only four wins from 12 matches in qualies and the main draw and the last time that he beat a top-100 ranked player was a three set struggle over Lorenzi in Bercy last October.
This one should be roughly 50/50 for me and the 2.77/4 on the Serb looks decent value to me here.
Other possibles today include Jarkko Nieminen, who really should be beating Andrey Golubev over five sets on a hard court, and Pablo Cuevas should be too solid for Matthias Bachinger.
Recommended Bets
Back Nish/Fog/Sim in the Daily Acca at 1.910/11
Back Lajovic to beat Stakhovsky at 2.77/4
