Football Bet of the Day: Expect dismal defending as Shots take aim at Harriers

Andy Scott's under pressure at Aldershot

After a winning start to the week, Kevin Hatchard's looking for more profit from the depths of English football...

Aldershot v Kidderminster Harriers
Tuesday January 20, 19:45

We ummed and aahed about whether to go for Over 2.5 Goals or Yes in the Both Teams To Score market, and in the end Nancy and Orleans delivered on both counts. They played out a 2-2 draw, which served our purposes just fine. C'etait magnifique.

I'm dragging us back home today, to the freezing temperatures in good old Blighty. It was minus six degrees celsius when I defrosted the car this morning, another nod to the sparkling glamour of the showbiz world I inhabit. Talking of glamour, we're focusing on a game from the Conference Premier this evening, as Aldershot take on Kidderminster Harriers.

The Shots have struggled since their relegation from the Football League. Last season they finished 19th in non-league football's top tier, and this season they are 18th after 30 games, just six points above the dropzone.

Life isn't easy for Aldershot's manager Andy Scott at the moment, and there is talk of a fan protest at tonight's game, with disgruntled supporters set to call for Scott to be dismissed from his role. Aldershot's form at present certainly is poor - they have lost eight of their last nine matches, and they haven't won at home in the Conference since mid-November.

8th-placed Kidderminster Harriers are also struggling at the moment, having lost three of their last four league games, and crashed out of the FA Trophy. They also have a dreadful recent record against the Shots, having failed to win any of their last nine games against them.

With both teams off form, I'm steering clear of the Match Odds market, and plumping instead for Over 2.5 Goals at 2.0621/20. Both defences are struggling badly, and that could help us tonight.

Aldershot are missing key defender Josh Gowling, who's been out for six weeks, and they made some awful errors in a 3-0 defeat to Lincoln City last time out. The Shots haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine matches, and they have shipped 19 goals during that sequence.

Kidderminster aren't any more solid than tonight's opponents. They've gone 11 games without a clean sheet, and six of their last eight league matches have featured three goals or more.
