Back Azarenka to march on
The Australian Open 2015 serves up a treat on Monday as Abelson Info preview four intriguing clashes in the fourth round of the women's draw...
World number one Serena Williams survived a scare last time out as she had to rally from a set down in order to advance.
However, the American ace wasted little time in getting back on track in that match and in turn she sets up a fascinating encounter with WTA rising star Garbine Muguruza.
The pair have history as although Williams defeated her Spanish rival in Australia two years ago, Muguruza got her revenge at the French Open last year with a famous victory to knock the top seed out early on.
Muguruza insists that she doesn't feel under any pressure to repeat that kind of performance, but she did admit that she was almost perfect that day and will need a similar display on Monday.
Whether or not she can produce remains to be seen, but our feeling is that Williams will have too much for her in Melbourne although she will be troubled at times by her opponent.
The elder of the Williams sisters is also in action as she continues to roll back the years with some impressive performances in Australia.
Venus has already defeated the likes of Davis and Giorgi, but she faces her toughest test yet when she takes on Agnieszka Radwanska for a place in the quarter-finals.
The sixth seed has yet to drop a set in the tournament and has lost a grand total of just nine games in her opening three matches.
Williams will put up more of a fight but Radwanska has had the edge in their head-to-head record in recent times, winning their last three meetings all in straight sets.
As a result, back the Polish star to continue that trend and nullify Williams' threat with her crafty work on the court.
That quarter of the draw has certainly opened up as waiting for Radwanska will be either Madison Keys or surprise star Madison Brengle as the American duo prepare for battle.
Keys dumped fourth seed Petra Kvitova out of the tournament last time out, while compatriot Brengle has picked up from where she left off in Hobart where she made the final.
These two have met only once previously with Keys getting the better of her rival back at the US Open in 2012 and we expect the teenage star to repeat the trick on Monday with a straight sets win.
Meanwhile, there is a real treat to get play underway in the Rod Laver Arena on Monday morning as Victoria Azarenka looks to take out another top seed.
As predicted, the Belarusian has looked at home back in Melbourne where she already has two titles, and with Stephens and Wozniacki already crossed off her list, Dominika Cibulkova is next.
Cibulkova won their last meeting but that was on clay, and if you look back to their history on the hard courts, Azarenka has won all six encounters. Back the unseeded star to secure another impressive win.
