We've offered the unlucky punter a trip to the FA Cup final
Saturday's magic of the Cup was more than matched on Betfair as one punter almost scooped a 1m return from a 10 five-fold. With just one leg required for the huge payout, the hopes and dreams of the punter were shared with a nation through Twitter. And the drama escalated still further as Cash Out came into play. Let's take a look at what happened...
The frankly irresponsible five-fold was as follows:
3pm: Manchester City v Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough Win
12/1
3pm: Cardiff v Reading
Reading Win and Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
4/1
3pm: Spurs v Leicester
Leicester Win and BTTS
11/2
3pm: Southampton v Crystal Palace
Palace Win and BTTS
11/1
5.30: Liverpool v Bolton
Bolton Win and BTTS
20/1
It took one of the most bizarre afternoons of football on record, but our man found himself sitting on a potential 1,000,064 return come 5.30pm. All from a 10 bet.
Of course when @Betfair broke the news of this potential monster, Twitter did what Twitter does:
News of the monster bet spread fast...
But by the 70th-minute mark it was still goalless between Liverpool and Bolton, and with the Cash Out offer still a whopping 15,000, our traders decided to try to contact the man himself.
But there was a problem. The phone number on our records went straight to voicemail. @Betfair again led the search party on Twitter, but sadly it was all in vain. And as the match came to its conclusion, our punter's hopes of waking up on Sunday morning a millionaire were well and truly sunk.
But it wasn't all doom and gloom. In return for the bet that gave so much and yet so little we decided to offer our punter 1,000 for each winning leg, and VIP tickets to the FA Cup Final. We're nice like that.
That's if we could get hold of him. We'll keep trying but we need your help. Ask around in case you know the owner of the #BetfairMillion acca, then get in touch with us @Betfair.
This is Play.
