Benfica will pile on the pressure in Porto tonight
The Eagles are ready to rain hell upon Pacos Ferreira's lodge, says Tobias Gourlay
Pacos Ferreira v Benfica
Monday 20:00
We left you in Portugal last Sunday and that's exactly where Kev dropped you again yesterday. Here's hoping you like piri piri, because it's been a lazy week off and we haven't got very far.
This evening's Primeira Liga game pits Porto's second club, Pacos Ferreira, against the best of Lisbon.
In fact, visiting Benfica are the best of all Portugal right now. Champions last season, they've won 15/17 so far this term and are six points clear at the top.
On their travels Jorge Jesus' men are a robust W8-D0-L1. There are only small prizes for backing the straight away win this evening, so what we're really interested in is the Eagles' record of scoring at least once before half-time in all nine of those matches.
For each of the eight wins, they have been winning at the break. Dip back into the end of last season and the total is 12 wins from 14 away games and a half-time lead in all 12.
What chance Pacos Ferreira tonight? Not much, it would seem. Paulo Fonseca's Beavers (not a thought we'll linger on) have conceded in 8/9 at the Estadio da Mata Real so far - only shutting out notoriously goal-shy Belenenses - and leaked before half-time in 5/9.
They've been losing at the break in each of their last three home outings and, dammit, they don't look like they're ready for the usual Benfica surge.
