Against All Odds: Plucky newcomers to get another result

There are worse places to be than Spain on a Monday

The week begins in Spain for Paul Robinson as he thinks that Rayo Vallecano won't justify their odds-on quote at home to Cordoba.

Rayo Vallecano v Cordoba
Monday January 12, 19:45 GMT

A 2-1 win at Getafe got Rayo Vallecano back on track following a run of one draw and four defeats in all competitions. They are back up to 11th in the table and victory tonight would move them into ninth.

I have major concerns about their form though, especially in front of their own fans. Paco Jmez's side have played eight times at Campo de Ftbol de Vallecas in La Liga this term and they have only won twice. Perhaps even more concerning is that five of them ended in defeat and while they have had to face Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla, they have still lost to Elche, Eibar and Espanyol.

Cordoba have had a remarkable year or so as they came up from the Spanish second tier via the play-offs. They didn't even finish in the top six, but because Barcelona's second team can't play in the same division as the first, the Andalusia based club were given their spot instead.

Widely expected to struggle this season, Miroslav uki's men are down in 18th place, but they are only three points adrift of Deportivo in 14th. While it took until December for them to record their first win, they won again last Monday and with only seven defeats this term, only clubs in the top eight have lost fewer.

The visitors are very hard to beat and with the hosts struggling for results on their own ground, at around the 1.748/11 mark, I have to make Rayo Vallecano my lay of the day.
