Football Bet of the Day: Nuneaton's travel sickness to continue

Lincoln's Red Imp is scarier than Nuneaton's away record, and that's saying something

Lincoln City v Nuneaton Town
Tuesday November 09, 19:45

Sadly, we started the week with what felt like a massive kick to the crotch. Vicenza did their bit for our Both Teams To Score bet, but Brescia decided it would be a good time to draw a blank in the league for the first time since September. It finished 2-0 - shame on you Brescia, don't you know it's nearly Christmas?

Ah well, there's no better way to get back on the horse than to jet off to a glamorous destination. Where shall we go? Monaco? Lisbon? How about Lincoln?

For those of you who are still here, I'm not joking, we're breaking new ground for this column with a trip to see the Red Imps. As a young reporter I once saw something at Sincil Bank that I've never witnessed before or since - a dog taking part in a pitch invasion at the conclusion of a successful relegation battle. The hound bounded around, as Lincoln avoided going down. Good idea for a children's book, that...

That dog has been disappointed since, as Lincoln have dropped through the divisions, and are now plying their trade in England's Conference Premier. The club are closer to the relegation zone than they are to the playoffs, but caretaker boss Chris Moyses has been given the job full-time after a decent run of form.

Lincoln have won two of their three home games since Moyses replaced Gary Simpson, and the team's general home form is strong, with six wins, three draws and three defeats. Now that the uncertainty surrounding the manager's position has been resolved, Lincoln fans are expecting their team to kick on.

There's a good chance to maintain their league progress against a Nuneaton side that has one of the worst away records in English football. They are second-bottom in the standings, largely thanks to the fact they have collected a solitary point from 12 away games this term. That point came from their first road trip, so they have lost their last 11 away matches.

In the Match Odds market, Lincoln are available at 1.748/11. You can boost those odds by using the Asian Handicap, but I'm wary about being too greedy. Five of Nuneaton's 11 road defeats have come by just one goal, and just two of Lincoln's six home victories have been by more than a single goal.
