Gus Poyet's side scored a late winner in the Tyne-Wear derby
Luke Moore rounds up Sunday's Premier League action as Sunderland beat Newcastle at the death and Liverpool pulled a Martin Skrtel header out of the fire to grab a point against Arsenal...
Sunderland broke Newcastle hearts in the Tyne-Wear derby this afternoon at St James's Park, Adam Johnson popping up just before the final whistle to secure the win for Gus Poyet's men. Johnson's late strike was matched at 40.039/1 on Betfair's Exchange, and the away win was matched as high as 19.018/1 in the Match Odds market.
Thousands were traded as low as 1.182/11 on The Draw as the game looked to be limping to a stalemate, but Newcastle fans were left stunned when the Black Cats clinched their fourth successive win in this fiercely contested derby.
All of this means that the Stadium of Light outfit are now out to 9.08/1 for relegation this term, having been matched as low as 2.77/4 earlier in the year.
In the afternoon's later kick off, Liverpool drew 2-2 with Arsenal in a score matched at 46.045/1 on Betfair's Exchange.
After some great early play from the hosts, the score at half time was 1-1 after Mathieu Debuchy popped up to head home, cancelling out Philippe Coutinho's opener. Olivier Giroud put the visitors ahead before Fabio Borini was sent off and Reds fans feared the worst. However, Martin Skrtel powered a header home in injury time to ensure the points were shared and Liverpool end the evening in tenth place.
Brendan Rodgers' men are now 8.07/1 to secure a top four finish, with Arsenal far shorter at just 1.412/5.
