Transfer Talk: ВЈ14million for Jermain Defoe...?

Former England international Jermain Defoe is being linked with Sunderland

Jermain Defoe has bounced around but is he really coming back to the Premier League with a club paying 14million for his services?

England international Jermain Defoe appears to be on the verge of leaving Toronto FC for Sunderland, according to reports.

The 32-year-old is believed to be keen on cutting short his time in the MLS to make a return to England, with 10 Premier League clubs thought to be interested in his services.

Having trained with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, Defoe is now thought to be in the north east, looking to get a deal over the line with the Black Cats, with The Sun claiming they are paying in the region of 14million for his services.

Meanwhile there has been some confusion regarding the future of Wilfried Bony, after the Ivory Coast Football Federation suggested a deal had been completed for the striker to move from Swansea City to Manchester City.

A deal is believed to be very close for the Swans star but the Welsh outfit tweeted on Wednesday morning that papers had not been signed and for now Bony was still on their books.

Moving onto reports coming out of Old Trafford and The Sun is suggesting Adnan Januzaj could be set to leave the club, having failed to impress manager Louis van Gaal.

The Belgium international was one of the hottest properties in the Premier League last season but the arrival of Van Gaal has seen the 19-year-old drop down the pecking order at the Theatre of Dreams.

United could well be tempted to allow Januzaj to leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window, either on loan or on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile the Daily Mirror is suggesting there could be another player leaving United this month, with Darren Fletcher being linked with a move to West Brom.

The Baggies are thought to have made an enquiry regarding the Scotland international, who has failed to secure regular first-team football under Van Gaal since his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to illness.

Finally, and the Daily Mirror are also reporting that Everton are looking to scupper Celtic's move for former Manchester City midfielder Ahmad Benali by beating the Scottish champions to the punch.

The 22-year-old is thought to be on the radar of Toffees manager Roberto Martinez, with the playmaker currently plying his trade at financially-troubled Brescia.

Reports in Italy suggest the players at Brescia have not been paid their wages in the last two weeks and Benali could be tempted by a move to Goodison Park this month.
