Festive fatigue appeared to strike some of the Premier League clubs in the Cup today with Manchester City, Stoke and Aston Villa all leaving it late before progressing into the fourth round. 

But there was no such drama or joy for Queens Park Rangers who couldn't even summon up a goal for the home fans when going down 3-0 to Sheffield United. 

Nigel Clough's visitors - semi-finalists in the Capital One Cup - are gaining a reputation as knockout tournament specialists and were backed at 6.25/1 to win in West London. A late third for Jamal Campbell-Ryce saw some fancy prices matched in-play with that final score touching 120.0119/1 on the exchange.  

Ipswich were another team to upset the odds, taking the lead at Southampton before eventually forcing a 1-1 draw with Ronald Koeman's high-flying Premier League side. The stalemate was backed at 5.59/2. 

Wrexham gave Stoke a real fright at the Britannia, taking a 73rd minute lead to edge towards the fourth round draw. Backed at a high of 38.037/1 the Welsh side were trading at 1.75/7 to win in 90 minutes. But a flurry of goals for the home side ended the dream and rewarded in-play backers of Mark Hughes' men at 11.010/1.

Manchester City were expected to make light work of Sheffield Wednesday but instead conceded an early goal and spent 52 minutes chasing an equaliser. That came from the boot of James Milner and the England midfielder popped up with the winner with the two teams playing four minutes of added time. The draw touched a low of 1.21/5 with City backed at a high of 7.06/1. 

Aston Villa have not been wowing the fans of late and the faithful had to wait 88 minutes to see a goal today with lowly Blackpool in opposition. Christian Benteke broke a long goalless spell for Villa (the two previous games had endded 0-0) and the claret and blue side went as high as 7.06/1 on Betfair. 

Earlier in the day the Alan Pardew-era at Crystal Palace got off to a winning start with a 4-0 victory at Dover while Sunderland edged into the next round with a 1-0 home win over Leeds. 

Manchester United kept it low-key in beating Yeovil 2-0 at Huish Park. Two goals in the second half were enough to take the 11-time winners through.

In the later games there were no such dramas for Chelsea and Arsenal as they ran out 3-0 and 2-0 winners over Watford and Hull respectively.

After today's results Jose Mourinho's men remain the 5.69/2 favourites in the FA Cup Winner market, just ahead of Man Utd, 6.05/1, Man City, 6.611/2, Arsenal, 8.88/1, and Liverpool, 10.09/1.
