Bony Transfer: How best to profit as Man City swoop

Wilfried Bony is expected to cost Man City around 30 million

Whether he ends January at Swansea or Man City, Wilfried Bony should be one of the Premier League's top four scorers...

Given how well Man City were performing recently without a recognised striker, the idea of them recruiting one of the best that the Premier League has to offer should terrify the rest of the division.

The champions dropped just two points in their last nine league games despite being without Edin Dzeko for all bar 27 minutes and minus Sergio Aguero in the latter five, so imagine how much better they will be with Wilfried Bony, who fired more Premier League goals than any other player in 2014.

It is reported that Man City - 2.962/1 to win the title - are in advanced discussions with Swansea, with the fee expected to be around 30 million. That isn't too excessive for a Premier League-proven 26-year-old who has netted 25 times in 43 top-flight starts for his mid-table Welsh employers.

Wilfried Bony, who also notched three times across two meetings with his admirers in 2014, is joint-fifth in the 2014/15 scorer standings on nine. A five-goal deficit to co-leaders Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa is probably too much to make up, hence top scorer odds of 34.033/1.

However, he is a mere three short of Charlie Austin in third and one shy of Alexis Sanchez in fourth, and neither of those have completed a Premier League campaign, creating doubt over whether they will retain their current strike rates in the remaining months.

Therefore, 4.77/2 seems like an enormous price on Bony finishing the season as one of the top four scorers.

Yes, he will miss a few fixtures due to attending the African Cup of Nations, but Ivory Coast will be done at some point between January 28 (there are only two more league games before then) and February 8 (four league matches), so it isn't the most damaging disadvantage.

Didier Drogba still managed 29 goals in 2009/10 despite the intrusion. If you are good enough, a few weeks out won't knock you off course, which is why Aguero is still co-leading the way even though he has already sat out five encounters entirely and appeared off the bench in two others.
