Transfer Talk: Saints in for Dutch legend

Is Dutch legend Wesley Sneijder set for a Southampton move?

Wesley Sneijder is being linked with a move to the Premier League whilst Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch are being linked with a Harry Redknapp reunion, I'm shocked. Alex Johnson rounds up the stories.

Any reports linking Ashley Cole with a January exit from Roma have been dismissed by the defender's agent David Manasseh.

The former England international only moved to the Serie A on a free transfer this summer after his contract expired at Chelsea, but the 33-year-old has found it hard to cement a regular starting spot.

There were rumours suggesting the left-back was close to securing a loan move to Premier League outfit Crystal Palace and a deal was expected to be completed.

Manasseh has dismissed these links though and according to the Daily Express, Cole's agent said the defender is enjoying his life in Italy and is not looking for an exit in January.

"He has never been happier. Whoever has given this information out is a disgrace because all it does is give fans of a football club false hope."

Looking at the Premier League and Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has identified Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe as potential January transfer targets.

The latter currently plays for Toronto in the MLS but, with American season over, a short-term loan move is being mooted as The Hoops look to strengthen their attacking options.

Crouch is also being linked with the club and the Stoke striker - who is in good form at the moment - could be re-united with Redknapp who managed the former England international when at Portsmouth.

Moving on to a story from the Daily Mirror and Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is reportedly trying to sign Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

The Saints started off their Premier League campaign in some style but four consecutive defeats have raised question marks about the strength and depth in their squad.

Koeman is now hopeful of enticing his fellow countryman to England and is willing to offer a substantial contract offer in order to land the midfielder.

And finally, the future of James Milner at Manchester City is in doubt with The Daily Telegraph reporting that contract talks have stalled.

The midfielder has enjoyed a regular run in the first-team this season under manager Manuel Pellegrini and has earned plaudits for his performances for the Citizens.

Milner recently expressed his desire to stay at the Etihad Stadium, with the former Newcastle United star saying "there are talks going on so hopefully it will be sorted soon."

The negotiations have reportedly hit a snag though and this has alerted a host of top European sides who are said to be monitoring the situation of the England international.
