Wayne Rooney opened the scoring on an enjoyable afternoon for the home side
United continued their unbeaten run at the expense of their major rivals to turn the heat up on Brendan Rodgers while Spurs win with a late goal away from home... again!
Manchester United made it six straight Premier League wins with a 3-0 humbling of fierce rivals Liverpool today.
The result keeps United in the title battle - they are now 14.013/1 to win the Premier League - while turning up the pressure on Brendan Rodgers.
Goals from Wayne Rooney, an offside Juan Mata and Robin van Persie did the job for Louis van Gaal's team to the delight of an Old Trafford crowd which loudly chanted about Rodgers' poor future job prospects on Merseyside.
But the home side were also indebted to keeper David De Gea who twice denied both Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli to keep the opposition at bay.
Rooney got the scoring underway early on, slotting home from inside the box against a Liverpool side featuring Brad Jones in goal and without a recognised striker on the pitch. Mata doubled the advantage from inside the box on the stroke of halftime before van Persie applied the final blow with 20 minutes left.
Backed at a high of 55.054/1, Rodgers is now 4.1n/a second favourite in Betfair's Next Premier League Manager to Leave market.
Liverpool are out to 8.88/1 to finish in the top four, a touch longer than 8.27/1 Spurs, 2-1 winners at Swansea today.
Tottenham pulled off a dramatic late show in south Wales, Christian Eriksen scoring with 89 minutes gone. The away side touched 15.5n/a to win in-play on Betfair while the draw was backed at a low of 1.182/11.
Spurs have now won four times away from home with late goals responsible for all four victories (at West Ham, Aston Villa, Hull and now Swansea).
