Premier League on Betfair: Chelsea and City widen gap to the rest with simple wins

Eden Hazard set Chelsea on their way against Tottenham

A crucial night of Premier League action saw the top two in the table ease to simple victories, while there was late drama at the Emirates for Arsenal. Mike Norman has all the In-Play odds details...

Chelsea maintained their six point lead over Manchester City by recording a straightforward victory over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

It was a slow start from Jose Mourinho's men, but after seeing Spurs hit the woodwork they burst into life just before the 20 minute mark when Eden Hazard played a lovely one-two with Didier Drogba before firing a low shot past Hugo Lloris.

The Belgian was matched at 8.615/2 in the First Goalscorer market, and just as those who backed him were getting their accounts credited Chelsea made it 2-0 through Drogba after a scuffed goal-kick by Lloris. The 2-0 Half Time Score was matched at 11.5n/a.

As Mourinho's men often do the Blues took their foot off the gas in a relatively dull second half, but they did manage to score a third thanks to a brilliant effort from Loic Remy.

Chelsea were matched at a high of just 1.645/8 to win on the night, while the 3-0 Correct Score was backed at 15.014/1.

Man City kept up the chase with an emphatic 1-4 victory at the Stadium Of Light, coming from a goal down to beat Sunderland.

After Connor Wickham - matched at 16.015/1 to open the scoring - had given the Black Cats an early lead goals from Sergio Aguero (two), Stevan Jovetic, and Pablo Zabaleta completed an easy victory for Manuel Pellegrini's men.

City were matched at 2.447/5 to win the game when trailing 1-0, but their excellent turnaround was good news for those who backed the 1-4 Correct Score at 34.033/1.

Tonight's wins for the top two means there's very little change in the Premier League Winner market with Chelsea still the hot favourites at 1.331/3, while Man City can be backed at 5.24/1.

Elsewhere this evening Arsenal were matched at 5.24/1 in the Match Odds market before scoring late on to beat Southampton thanks to another goal from Alexis Sanchez, while Everton and Hull played out a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park, a scoreline that was matched at 10.5n/a In-Play.
