Football Bet of the Day: Let's hope for some traditional Belgian boredom

Mardy Maes: Let's hope Lokeren's coach look this bored for the whole 90 minutes

Kevin Hatchard's search for tipping redemption takes him to Belgium to conclude the week, and he's hoping absolutely nothing happens when Lierse face Lokeren.

I feel like the Brendan Rodgers of tipping at the moment. The selections seem fine when I send them out onto the pitch, but they're just not doing the business when they cross the white line. Take Estudiantes last night, for example. Unbeaten in six games overall, and unbeaten in five against San Lorenzo. One of the best defences in the Argentinean top flight up against a team in poor form.

How did they get on? They lost 3-0. Of course they did.

For whatever reason, the speed and intensity of my tipping isn't the same as it was last time, and confidence is low. But, as Brendan would say, this is when the group shows character.

We'll finish our week in Belgium, and a top-flight clash between rock-bottom Lierse and Lokeren. The wheels have well and truly come off for Lierse in the last month or so - five consecutive defeats have seen them sink to the bottom of the pile, and they have scored just one goal in that period.

Lierse sacked coach Stanley Menzo after winning just one of their first six games, and although his replacement Slavisa Stojanovic managed a slight upturn in results, the bad form has returned with a vengeance.

Lokeren were eliminated from the Europa League in midweek despite an impressive 1-0 win over group leaders Legia Warsaw, but they are a healthy fifth in the Jupiler League table, just four points off top spot. They haven't conceded a goal in three matches now, and they have the fourth-best defence in the division.

I'm going to plump for Under 2.5 Goals in this one at 2.01/1. Lierse have well and truly lost their scoring touch, and Lokeren coach Peter Maes likes to keep things tight on the road, with just three of his team's last 11 away games featuring three goals or more. It's also worth noting that three of the teams' last four meetings have seen an unders bet pay out.
