Tips of the Week: World Cup, Newmarket, Le Tour and the Scottish Open all deliver profit for our tipsters

In a week in which Germany were crowned world champions, our tipsters had a strong week

It was a bumper week for our tipsters as some big priced fancies landed across the World Cup, the racing at Newmarket and the golf up at Aberdeen in the Scottish Open...

Last week proved to be a very profitable one for our team here at Betting.Betfair with winners piling in from all over the world. Over in Brazil, where the finest World Cup in a long time finally drew to a close, our very own editor Mike Norman staked 28pts on several outcomes ready for the knockout stages and received a staggering 54.86pts back, including a big win on 9-12 red cards at 5.85/1.

Sticking on the World Cup theme, Kev Hatchard called the semi-final between Brazil and Germany spot on, landing three bets out of three, including Thomas Mueller to score and delivering a handy 4.31pts profit. Not content with that, Kev also called Germany to win the final in extra time at a huge 12.5n/a.

And last, but by no means least, perhaps Jack Houghton should consider an alternative career as a clairvoyant; he predicted Germany and Argentina to face off in the final before the tournament even kicked off!

Switching sports to golf now ahead of this week's Open Championship, and it was a good week at the office for our Each Way column, who turned their attention to the Scottish Open at Royal Aberdeen. Shane Lowry and Stephen Gallacher both finished in the top five after going off at 61.0n/a and 41.0n/a respectively, and that meant 101.25 returned from 50 staked and a profit of 51.25. Our man Ralph Ellis shrewdly advised opposing Chris Froome to win the Tour de France at 2.111/10 after his crash at the Criterium du Dauphine in the middle of June, and that sadly came to pass when Team Sky's lead rider was forced to pull out after two crashes on the cobblestones of Stage 5. Going back to the World Cup briefly, and Ralph also advised a back of James Rodriguez to hold on to the Golden Boot at 5.04/1.

It was horse racing expert Tony Calvin who stole the show this week though, tipping an absolutely huge winner at Newmarket in the shape of Deeds Not Words in the 15:15 on Thursday which went off at a BSP of 51.9n/a, after backing winner Arabian Queen in the 14:20 earlier in the day at 7.06/1. Not content with that, Tony also successfully tipped up Bronze Angel at York on Saturday at 9.08/1.
