Man City & Chelsea fight over Drogba - Transfer Talk

Didier Drogba is a wanted man according to the Daily Star

Didier Drogba left Chelsea after winning the Champions League for them and rode off into the sunset. Now it looked like he was set to return but could Man City try and scupper that deal? Alex Johnson reports...

QPR are on the verge of signing Cardiff City defender Steven Caulker, with Sky Sports claiming he is to undergo a medical.

The recently promoted side have been tracking the centre-back for several weeks now and finally look to have landed their man for a reported fee of 8million, fending off the interest of Crystal Palace.

QPR recently signed former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand and that deal looks to have aided Caulker in deciding to choose Loftus Road as his next home.

Elsewhere Tottenham midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has flown back from the club's pre-season training camp in Seattle according to the BBC ahead of a potential move to Swansea.

The 24-year-old is expected to have a medical on Tuesday as part of a straight swap for Swansea's Wales full-back Ben Davies who looks set to become Mauricio Pochettino first signings as Spurs manager.

Swansea could be set for two more departures though with goalkeeper Michel Vorm mulling over a move to White Hart Lane, whilst Pablo Hernandez is believed to be on the brink of completing a move to Al Arabi in Qatar.

Meanwhile Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly plotting a move for Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba following the injury to Alvaro Negredo.

The latter is expected to be out for over two months after breaking a bone in his foot in a pre-season friendly and the Premier League holders are now looking to find a replacement.

Drogba has been widely tipped to join former club Chelsea on a one-year-deal but according to the Daily Star, Manchester City are looking to jump in with a last-minute bid.

Championship winners Leicester are said to be interested in signing France international Florent Malouda for an undisclosed fee, according to the Daily Mirror.

The former Chelsea winger is currently contracted to Trabzonspor, but, with only one-year left on his deal there are several clubs who are rumoured to be keen on the attacker.

Leicester have already been busy in the transfer market having acquired the likes of Marc Albrighton and Matthew Upson, and they also look set to sign Brighton striker Leonardo Ulloa for 7million, as manager Nigel Pearson attempts to bring in more reinforcements.

Finally, The Daily Star have reported that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out a move for AC Milan forward Mario Balotelli after the Frenchman stated that the club don't need any more strikers.

Wenger said: "Up front we don't need any more, maybe I will still bring in one centre-back. I will bring in a goalkeeper for sure and we are still out there to strengthen our squad."

Arsenal are still expected to bring in Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira in a deal worth over 30 million with a move looking set to be completed in the coming days.
