Against All Odds: Chivas USA to avoid defeat

Can Chivas USA make the top five?

Chivas USA aren't expected to get much from their trip to Colorado in the MLS tonight but Paul Robinson thinks otherwise.

Colorado are hanging on to a place in the Final Series as they are fifth in the Western Conference after 19 fixtures. Their form isn't that great at the moment though as they've won just one of their half dozen. They were beaten last time out at Portland and the Whitecaps are now level on points with them.

Pablo Mastroeni's side will be glad to get back on home soil for this match as they generally have a good record in front of their own fans. The Rapids are undefeated in five at DSG Park but it is worth noting that two of those were draws. It's also worth considering that they were beaten 3-1 by tonight's opponents on this ground back in May.

Chivas USA had been enduring a miserable campaign but four successive wins from the end of June lifted them off the bottom of the table and still in with a chance of making the top five. Victory here would see them move to within one point of Colorado and that will be a huge incentive.

Wilmer Cabrera's men did lose their last outing to end their winning run but that was at DC United who are second in the Eastern Conference. Prior to that they were unbeaten in five on the road and while they haven't had a great season, they have only lost three of 10 away games.

I'm surprised that Colorado are odds-on for this match, which is why, at around the 1.738/11 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
