Atletico PR are one of the top scorers in Serie A this season
It's that time of the week where Paul Robinson selects a home win, an away win, a match to go over 2.5 goals and a match to go under 2.5 goals. Here are his selections...
Bet 1: Sport Recife (HOME) @ 2.37 (11/8)
Sport Recife were promoted to the Campeonato following their third place finish in Serie B last year. After an in different start to life back amongst the big boys, the Pernambuco based club picked up seven points from a possible nine before the break for the World Cup.
Eduardo Baptista's side drew with Gremio before recording two 1-0 wins in a row against Vitoria and Bahia. They've played four times at home this season - winning two, drawing one and losing the other to the high-flying, Corinthians.
Botafogo finished fourth last time but they're down in 13th at the moment and have had to call in the services of Vagner Mancini to turn things around. Their form also picked up before the break - two draws and a win ending a run that saw them pick up just four points from a possible 18.
A recent draw at Corinthians and victory at Palmeiras can't mask their terrible results on the road as prior to that they had lost eight out of nine away from the Maracan.
Bet 2: Sao Paulo (AWAY) @ 2.2 (6/5)
Sao Paulo had a pretty shocking 2013 as they went through nearly half a dozen managers and looked in danger of relegation for a long time. Their results picked up towards the end of the campaign though and Muricy Ramalho has continued that good work into this one as after nine games they are up in fourth place with 16 points.
Prior to the break for the World Cup, 'Tricolor' had won three of their previous five matches and that included victories over the likes of Gremio and Atletico Mineiro. They may have only won one of four away from home, but they've had some pretty tough assignments and they were beaten just the once.
Bahia are on the slide following a solid start to their year as they've now lost their last four matches. Two of those defeats were at their home in Salvador and they couldn't even muster a goal in either of them.
Marquinhos Santos' men could be facing an uphill battle to stay in Serie A this season and a repeat of their October 2013 loss to Sao Paulo in front of their own fans is definitely on the cards.
Bet 3: Flamengo v Atletico PR (Over 2.5 goals) @ 1.95 (19/20)
Flamengo haven't been flying as high as they used to in recent years although the 2009 champions did win the Copa do Brasil last season. Their league form has deserted them thus far in 2014 however as they currently sit second from bottom with only seven points.
Former manager, Ney Franco, has re-joined the club from Vitoria and he will be keen to re-start the season with a win. It's going to be a tough task though as they failed to beat fellow strugglers, Bahia and Figueirense at home and clean sheets have been few and far between.
Atletico PR were one of the surprise packages of last year as the newly promoted side finished in third place and qualified for the Copa Libertadores.
Vagner Mancini decided to depart the club though and Miguel Angel Portugal didn't exactly set the world alight before being sacked in May. Doriva is their current head coach and he will be keen to get them back into the top half of the table.
As far as the goals go, all four of their away games this term have gone over 2.5 goals, with the 2-2 draw at Vitoria and the 3-1 win at Figueirense both going over 3.5. Overall their matches are averaging exactly three goals each time and this one should only increase that figure.
Bet 4: Gremio v Goias (Under 2.5 goals) @ 1.66 (4/6)
Gremio are one of the main contenders for the Campeonato title and after nine games they sit just off the pace in sixth place. Their record at home is very solid indeed and they've already taken 10 points from a possible 12 in front of their own fans this season.
The key to their success has been at the back as Enderson Moreira's side have the joint best defensive record in the entire division. They keep plenty of clean sheets in Porto Alegre - which is a good job as they aren't exactly prolific in front of goal themselves.
Goias made a cracking effort at qualifying for the Copa Libertadores in their first season back in the top flight but they ultimately fell two points short after losing their final three fixtures.
'Verdo' are having another run at it this year though as they are up in seventh having only lost twice. With seven scored and seven conceded, their matches are averaging a mere 1.56 goals per 90 minutes - with the only team to have a lower average being tonight's opponents, Gremio, who weigh in with a paltry 1.33.
