Harry Redknapp set for Ron Vlaar swoop

Dutch star Vlaar is attracting interest from QPR

Ron Vlaar was one of the big surprises of the World Cup and Harry Redknapp is being linked with a swoop for the Aston Villa central defender.

The Birmingham Mail claims QPR are looking to make a raid on Aston Villa to sign Ron Vlaar.

The centre back, who is in the final year of his contract at Villa Park, was impressive during the Netherlands' run to the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Harry Redknapp is expected to test the water with a 4million bid for the Dutchman, having seemingly missed out on Cardiff defender Steven Caulker.

Elsewhere, Tottenham are believed to be closing in on the signing of Swansea full-back Ben Davies.

The Daily Star suggests Spurs have had a 10million bid accepted by the Swans, although Liverpool also remain interested in the 21-year-old.

Davies was part of the Swansea youth system when Brendan Rodgers was in charge at the Liberty Stadium, but Tottenham appear to be leading the race for the left-back's signature.

Stoke are understood to be close to sealing a permanent deal for Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi, after a successful loan spell at the Britannia Stadium last season.

After the two clubs failed to agree terms earlier in the summer, the Telegraph claims talks over a potential deal for the 25-year-old have resumed.

Stoke are believed to be ready to pay 4.5million up front, with add ons to follow, having ended their interest in the Norwich winger Nathan Redmond.

Sportinastorm.com claims new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has blocked any loan exit for youngster Michael Keane.

Van Gaal has seen both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic leave the club during the summer and United have so far been unable to bring in any new defenders.

Both Blackburn and Burnley were believed to be seeking loan deals for the 21-year-old Keane, but they will have to wait a bit longer to see whether he will become available.

Finally, the Daily Mail have reported that Tottenham will offer Jan Vertonghen a new five-year contract to try and persuade him to stay.

The Belgian international has been heavily linked with a summer exit from White Hart Lane, with teams in Spain and Italy believed to be chasing his signature.

But despite already having two years left on his current deal, Tottenham are claimed to be ready to extend his contract and increase his current 45,000-per-week wages.

Spurs hope that Hugo Lloris' recent decision to pen a new contract will persuade Vertonghen that the future at the club is bright.
