Cross-Sport Multiple: Back Athlone to hold Derry

Derry have not had much to celebrate this season

Andrew Hughes thinks bottom club Athlone can earn a point against Derry in the Airtricity Premier Division and help land a Sunday cross-sport multiple

Bet 1:  Back Athlone to draw with Derry at 3.412/5

Athlone Town's return to the Irish Premier Division got off to a dreadful start and after ten defeats, manager Mick Cooke paid the price. But under Keith Long, they've staged a revival. They are still six points adrift at the bottom of the table but have lost just one of their last four, a narrow 1-0 defeat to title contenders Cork City.

While Athlone's campaign is finally getting going, Derry's season has been stuck in the doldrums for weeks. They don't lose that many, indeed they've lost fewer games than all the other teams outside the top four, but they don't win many either. Over half their matches have ended in a draw, and that is the likeliest outcome in Athlone against a spirited but limited home side.

Bet 2: Back Roger Federer to beat Novak Djokovic at 2.35/4

Having fallen short against Andy Murray last year, Novak Djokovic has once again made it to the Wimbledon final, but he is likely to find his bid for a second title thwarted by an old rival.

After losing their first four encounters, Djokovic has caught up with Roger Federer over the last eight years, and has won four of their last six matches.

But he lost their only meeting on grass, in the 2012 Wimbledon semi-final and on this surface, a fading Federer may still have the edge. He won't give Djokovic the straightforward slug-fest the Serb thrives upon and will use his consummate timing and mastery of every shot to break up his opponent's rhythm. Back Federer to shine one last time at Wimbledon and to win a record eighth title.

Bet 3: Back Worcestershire to beat Lancashire at 2.01/1

The best of Sunday's Twenty20 Blast games is the top of the North Division clash between perennial no-hopers Worcestershire and Finals Day regulars, Lancashire.

Both are profiting from the efforts of Pakistani bowlers. Saeed Ajmal has been miserly in the extreme for Worcestershire, conceding just six runs an over, while Junaid Khan has taken 14 wickets for Lancashire.

But besides Ajmal, Worcestershire can also boast the tournament's top wicket taker in Chris Russell and it has been their varied bowling attack that has propelled them to the top of the table. They are undefeated in eight games and particularly strong at New Road. Back Worcestershire for the win.
