Wimbledon 2014: Back Federer to land an eighth Wimbledon crown

Will Federer be smiling after today's Wimbledon clash with Djokovic?

The men's singles title at Wimbledon 2014 will be decided on Sundat afternoon and after a very profitable tournament so far, Sean Calvert is siding with the underdog today...

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic go toe-to-toe across the net for the 35th time on Sunday in the final of the Men's Singles at Wimbledon 2014.

And after the feeble performance of Milos Raonic on Friday I'm hoping to get back to winning ways after the Canadian failed to get the one set I needed from him to land my overs wager.

I said on Friday that I expected Roger to come through that match, but few expected the Swiss to do it in straight sets against the powerful serve of Raonic, who had his numerous limitation well and truly exposed by a peerless Federer.

And Djokovic must be hoping that Fed has a bit of a dip in form as the Serb seeks to land a second career Wimbledon singles crown, while Federer looks for an eighth.

Novak stumbled into the final thanks to another performance that was little more than 'good enough' against Grigor Dimitrov, who four times failed to take that match to a decider.

Their career series has been tough to predict, with Federer winning two of the three meetings in 2014 as a fairly substantial underdog at around the 4.216/5 and 3.613/5 marks in Dubai and Monte-Carlo respectively, while Novak edged the other in a final set tie break at Indian Wells as a 1.564/7 favourite.

The pair have met just the once on grass and that was here back in 2012 in the semi finals when Federer won in four and the layers are struggling a bit with this one, having put Djokovic in as an uneasy 1.654/6 shot.

This is largely due to a series of fairly unconvincing showings here on the grass this fortnight and in general in his career so far.

Perhaps the appointment of Boris Becker was to help in this swing of the tour, as it's fairly clear to all watching that the Serb is far less comfortable on this surface than any other.

He appears not to trust his footing on the grass, as has been highlighted again this year by numerous tumbles and for me he can't defend as well on it, due to the fact that he can't really slide on it and consequently can't get as many balls back into play.

This in turn makes him vulnerable to shot makers like Federer and the Serb's record against top players makes him look pretty poor value as favourite here.

In his career on the green stuff Novak has won only six of his 13 matches against top-10 opponents and only one of six against top-five ranked opposition.

The one was his Wimbledon title win over Rafa Nadal back in 2011 and my view on Nole hasn't really changed since my tournament preview a fortnight ago - and that is that he is vulnerable on grass, which remains the case on Sunday.

Federer, for his part, has played pretty much the best tennis on the men's side this fortnight and I think he has a fine chance as underdog today.
