Arsenal closing in on ВЈ24m Sami Khedira - Transfer Talk

Is this the man who can take Arsenal back to the biggest stage?

It is all go at the Arsenal as manager Arsene Wenger has finally dug deep into his back pockets and found the loose change needed to sign world class talent. Another man is heavily linked today...

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their attempts to sign Sami Khedira this summer.

The Gunners, who have just completed the 35m signing of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, are keen to sign midfielder Khedira, who has just rejected a two-year contract extension with Champions League winners Real Madrid, according to the Daily Star.

The midfielder, currently starring at the World Cup with Germany, has just 12 months left on his contract and it has been reported that Arsene Wenger has tabled a 24m bid, but is perturbed by Khedira's 153,000-a-week wage demands.

The Daily Express suggest that Lazio are the front-runners in the race for 7m rated Feyenoord defender Stefan De Vrij. The 22-year-old has shone at the World Cup with Holland and many believed that coach Louis van Gaal would try to take De Vrij with him to Manchester United once they return from Brazil. Lazio's sporting director Igli Tare said that his "will is to play in Lazio."

Despite FIFA upholding his ban, Barcelona will push through with their 75m bid Luis Suarez, The Sun reports. The Liverpool talisman is currently serving a four-month ban from all forms of football after biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup. With the aforementioned Sanchez opting for Arsenal it seems that the deal for the Uruguayan is not too far from completion.

West Ham are not alone in their pursuit of Pachuca's Enner Valencia, write The Times. The Ecuadorian, who netted three times at the World Cup, scored 18 goals in 23 appearances last season. The Hammers have supposedly lodged a 12m bid, but face competition from Italian giants AC Milan and Spanish club Sevilla.

The Telegraph state that Leicester City are to break their transfer record - a 5m move for Ade Akinbiyi in 2000 - with a 7.5m move for Brighton and Hove Albion striker Leonardo Ulloa. Foxes manager Nigel Pearson is in the market for a striker and has already seen a 6.25m bid turned down for the Argentine, who has scored 23 goals in 50 league games for Brighton. Ulloa has told Brighton that he wants to leave, but the steep 7.5m asking price is so far acting as a deterrent.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has made a 4m swoop for Bosnia-Herzegovina starlet Muhamed Besic, according to the Daily Mirror. The 21-year-old was one of the few Bosnian players to really stand out at the World Cup and it seems that Hungarian club Ferencvaros will have little chance of holding onto him.
