Against All Odds: Goals in the USA

The Chicago Fire players have a burning rage for goals

Paul Robinson takes us Stateside tonight as he expects the goals to flow when Chicago Fire take on Toronto FC.

Chicago Fire just missed out on the Play-offs last year and while they're ninth of 10 in the Eastern Conference this time around - the top five qualify - they have games in hand over the teams above them. Winning has been an issue as they've taken maximum points just twice from 14 matches, but they have at least only lost four times.

It's the goal-side of things we're concentrating on tonight though and with 22 scored and 25 conceded, their fixtures are averaging 3.36 goals each time. Last time out, Frank Yallop's men finished on the wrong end of a five goal thriller and three of their last half dozen at Toyota Park have now gone over 3.5.

Toronto are also in the Eastern Conference but they are faring much better in fourth place. They have accumulated 20 points from 12 matches and while they trail leaders, Sporting KC, by five points, they have four games in hand.

As far as the goals go, their matches are averaging 2.67 goals per 90 minutes and their last three scorelines in the MLS have been 2-2, 3-2, 1-0 and 2-2. Away from home it's been a pair of 2-2 draws for Ryan Nelson's side of late and we could be in for similar tonight.

We should get at least three goals from these two, but I'm willing to take the chance on there being four. That's why, with under 3.5 goals trading at around the 1.444/9 mark, I have to make it my lay of the day.
