Australian Open 2015 Men's Betting: Murray can overcome Djokovic to win another major title

Andy Murray faces Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open final on Sunday and after tipping Djokovic to beat Stan Wawrinka 3-2 tennis expert Sean Calvert previews the action in Melbourne...

After a sticky patch in the middle of the fortnight, the last few days of tennis betting at the Australian Open have been very profitable, with winners at 7.5n/a and 1.84/5 on Friday.

The over 36.5 total games in Stan Wawrinka vs Novak Djokovic was rarely in any trouble and landed easily, while those who took a chance on the 3-2 to Djokovic walked away very happy indeed.

We start on Sunday at around 08:30 UK time in the 24th career meeting between the two rivals, born just a week apart, and this rivalry still has some mileage in in yet.

Djokovic leads 15-8 and has won the last four and Murray hasn't won one since that famous day at the All England Club back in the summer of 2013.

It could certainly be argued that Murray hasn't played at that Wimbledon-winning level since that day, but he has this fortnight and both the fire in the belly and the shot-making genius both appear to be back.

Of the two I would suggest that the Scot has played the better tennis of the pair, with Djokovic producing a pretty mediocre performance in victory over a very up and down Wawrinka in the semi final.

The Serb hit 49 unforced errors and the Swiss 69 in a strange contest that didn't have much of a pattern to it and Djokovic supporters will be hoping that is his one bad match out of the way and he managed to emerge from it successfully.

I would find it very difficult to back Djokovic at 1.491/2 based on his performances here this fortnight, despite this being the biggest price that Djokovic has been against Murray since that Wimbledon final of 2013.

Last year's meetings have little bearing on this match, with Murray struggling after back surgery and the Scot does have the advantage of having played his semi final a day earlier and not having gone to five sets.

It wasn't a particularly brutal five setter though and temperatures in Melbourne have been cool over the last few days, so I'm not sure that I see fatigue being a huge factor here.

Murray does appear to be in the best physical shape we've seen him in for 18 months or so and winning this title doesn't seem beyond the Brit by any means.

In terms of attitude we've seen very little of the on court antics that have blighted Murray performances in the past and we're seeing a calmer Murray this tournament, but still with passion.

In contrast, we've seen an edgy, angry Djokovic, who seems a man under pressure, while Murray seems to be enjoying his job again.

In summary, I think there's enough in this to side with Murray at 3.02/1 to land a third Grand Slam title.
