Should Danny Ings stay in England or move abroad?

What should Danny Ings do...?

Danny Ings will have no shortage of suitors this summer but should the Burnley man consider a move into Europe?

David Moyes' Real Sociedad are known admirers of Ings but Burnley boss Sean Dyche thinks he should stay in England when his Clarets deal expires in the summer.

Dyche says Ings needs to play in the "top end of the Premier League" for his "development", adding that "the middle of La Liga is no use". This may well be his opinion, although it is worth noting it is in Burnley's interest for Ings to stay in England and as such Dyche has an ulterior motive. If he joins a club within the English system the Clarets can expect around 5million in compensation, but that figure will be in the hundreds of thousands if he decides to move to a European league.

The signs do look promising for the 22-year-old in terms of joining a "top end" English outfit, Liverpool and Spurs were both heavily linked in January but Burnley had no intention of selling. If the two heavyweights are options for Ings this summer they could well be more attractive propositions than Sociedad. Both are in need of additions in attack, meaning he would stand a good chance of securing a starting spot, and Champions League football would be a big draw - with Sociedad seemingly out of the running for Europe - should either Spurs or the Reds qualify.

However, Sociedad have a number of selling points too. David Moyes' reputation took a battering at Manchester United but his career as a whole has been a successful one. He transformed Everton from a team forever battling relegation into a side that regularly challenged for Europe and will have similar aspirations at the Anoeta. Dyche may have suggested that they are a mid table outfit but Moyes will have his sights set on the top end of the division and if Ings is a key figure in their resurgence, his reputation would be enhanced in much the same way as if he regularly found the target in the Premier Legaue, perhaps even more so.

One of the key points in the debate is whether a move to Europe would harm Ings' England chances? The in-demand striker has yet to feature for the national side but nine goals this term, despite missing a sizeable chunk of the campaign due to injury, and some impressive displays have thrust him firmly into contention.

If Ings does move abroad he would find himself in a unique situation as a player trying to establish himself as a Three Lions regular in a foreign league, although perhaps Ravel Morrison will have similar ambitions when he joins Serie A's Lazio as a free agent this summer.

To assume Roy Hodgson won't consider Ings if he is not playing in the Premier League is probably unfair on the England manager, who has managed clubs in a number of different countries. The experience of regular La Liga action may even be of benefit to Ings in terms of his international hopes, think about how many times you've heard pundits say something along the lines of 'more English players should move abroad' after a disappointing tournament. Spanish football is also heavily covered by the English press, just imagine the headlines if Ings grabs a winner against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid, so it seems unlikely that he will be overlooked if he moves to La Liga.

A switch to Liverpool would offer Ings the chance to link up Daniel Sturridge and at Spurs he would play alongside Harry Kane, who are both likely England team-mates. If either Liverpool or Spurs secure Champions League football and back-up their interest with a firm offer in the summer it is hard to make a case for Sociedad, such is the draw of Europe's elite tournament.

However, if Ings doesn't get an offer from one of the 'big' Premier League clubs a switch to La Liga should not harm his England chances or halt his "development", it could even help him improve further as he is the kind of technically gifted striker who could thrive in Spain.
