Which Championship players could make it in the Premier League?

Jordan Rhodes has long been tipped for great things

The summer transfer window is not too far away and it won't be long before teams begin to plan for another busy summer of spending.

The January window has traditionally seen less money spent as selling clubs bump up the price for their top players. By waiting until the summer, some teams can get a better idea of who is worth buying.

The richest Premier League clubs won't have a problem adding to their team but some sides will need to plan their business very carefully.

Clubs in the Championship will certainly be starting to panic about their best players being picked as we take a look at five players who could easily make the step up to the top flight.

Lewis Cook - Leeds United

Under manager Neil Redfearn, Cook has gone from strength-to- strength at Elland Road since the former academy coach took charge of the first-team. The England Under-18 international has been one of the shining lights in Leeds' team and the club are now starting to reap the rewards for being patient with Cook.

The central midfielder was on hand to set up Alex Mowatt during Leeds' 1-0 win over Middlesbrough last weekend but his overall game has attracted the attention of some Premier League clubs. Liverpool were thought to be considering a bid in January and Cook has shown he has all the attributes to play in the Premier League on a regular basis.

Tyrone Mings - Ipswich Town

At 6ft 3ins, Mings certainly has the stature to handle the physicality of the Premier League. The youngster can play at both centre-back and left-back but he could well play in the top flight with the Tractor Boys.

If Ipswich fail to get promoted then they may have a fight on their hands to keep him, with Mings once again showing his class this season. The 21-year-old has plenty of pace for a man of his stature and a number of top flight clubs would be willing to give him a chance. Crystal Palace wanted to sign him last season but Arsenal now appear to be the front runners.

Jordan Rhodes - Blackburn Rovers

Rhodes has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past but Blackburn's determination to keep him at Ewood Park has helped them rebuff any interest.

The former Huddersfield Town striker is a natural finisher and he is unstoppable at times in the box. Rovers did well to keep him after the January window but his goals may not be enough to fire them into play-offs, leading to speculation he could finally move on this summer.

Although Rhodes doesn't have bags of pace, his finishing ability means he would likely deliver for any Premier League outfit.

Callum Wilson - Bournemouth

After signing from Coventry City, Wilson's performances have seen him become one of the most dangerous players in the Championship.

Wilson has netted 15 goals for the Cherries this season and last week he was linked with a 15million move to Chelsea.

He possess pace, power and a high work-rate and Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe may lose him in the summer if the Blues come calling with a serious bid, even if the south coast club achieve promotion.

Will Hughes - Derby County

It seems like every season Hughes is linked with a move away from the iPro Stadium to a team in the Premier League. To some it's a shock he is still playing for the Rams but Steve McClaren is getting the best out of the midfielder.

Reports in the English press claim Liverpool have the first refusal on Hughes, who would fit perfectly into the Reds' style of play. Unlike some signings that have made the leap, Hughes has performed consistently for Derby for a number of years in the Championship and his experience will stand him in good stead when he eventually gets his chance at the big time.
