It's familiar ground for 2011 champion Petra Kvitova, as she returns to the final at SW19 after defeating fellow Czech Lucie Safarova on Thursday.

Having struggled to replicate her success of three years ago, Kvitova has always maintained confidence in her own game and this tournament is seemingly capable of bringing the best out of her.

Sceptics will argue that the sixth seed has had a relatively comfortable path, as with many of the top seeds falling early she has had to overcome less celebrated names such as Peng, Zahlavova Strycova and Safarova in order to be in this position.

However, that shouldn't be a criticism of her as she has been professional throughout and aside from a slight stumble against Venus Williams in the third round she has done the job that was necessary.

While her movement may be questionable, her big-hitting ground strokes will likely be the difference and if she can settle into a rhythm early, it could spell trouble for her opponent.

That opponent is of course Eugenie Bouchard, who will make her first appearance at a Grand Slam final after making the semi-finals for a third time this year.

The 20-year-old Canadian won the junior title here two years ago, and she is now on the brink of adding the senior version to her collection as her ever-improving game takes her closer to realising her dreams.

While the starlet could be forgiven for being lost in the moment and celebrating the fact that she has finally reached a final, her immediate after-thought was that she expects more of herself and she still has one more match to win.

Although she has undoubtedly worked hard at her game for a number of years, she is still a relative novice in the sport at 20 years of age, but her attitude and desire to win will ensure that this will be an enthralling final if she can control points early.

Kvitova claimed victory in their only previous meeting, winning in straight sets in Toronto last year but naturally this is a completely different proposition for the Czech star given the improvements her rival has made since.

In addition, this is arguably the first time that the pressure is really on for the former champion, and as a slight favourite that may well play on her mind which would be equal to any nerves that Bouchard is feeling in such a big event.

Nevertheless, we expect a new 'darling of Wimbledon' to be crowned on Saturday, as along with all the talent required at this level, Bouchard has demonstrated that she has the poise and temperament to deal with pressure in order to win.

While she may be a surprise finalist to some, this feels like part of a natural progression which started a year ago, and what better way to further announce yourself on the world stage with victory at Wimbledon.
