Tips of the Week: Tennis writers serve up a tasty profit in SW19

Novak wins his second Wimbledon title, as tipped by Ralph Ellis

It was a Wimbledon final to remember on Sunday as Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer went toe-to-toe for five sets and it was a great tournament for the B.B tennis experts, with plenty of winners. Full details on these and an amazing World Cup for Jack Houghton in our regular Monday round-up...

B.B tennis correspondent, Sean Calvert, is no stranger to a winner or three and it was no different during Wimbledon fortnight, with a 34.8 point return on his 26 suggested bets, an overall profit of 8.8 points.

Highlights included a 4.47/2 tip on Nick Kyrgios to win set one of his match with Milos Raonic 7-6 and the 3.814/5 shout for John Isner to take set one against Feliciano Lopez by the same score. 

Sticking with all things SW19, Ralph Ellis liked what he saw from Novak Djokovic on day one and advised backing the Serb at 2.89/5 to win the tournament, suggesting Boris Becker's influence would help him over the line - and so it proved.

All-rounder Ralph also had a nice World Cup winner last week, suggesting a bet on the Netherlands to reach the semi-finals at 3.052/1. 

In his latest Monday football column, Ralph is suggesting Louis van Gaal's men could go the whole way.

Jack Houghton is another man for all sports here at Betfair Towers and his series on how the armchair fan can use ratings to increase the profitability of their World Cup punting produced a superb set of results.

The first instalment predicted African teams wouldn't match the hype and they duly under-delivered, winning only three matches out of 17.

The second correctly tipped Mexico 2.588/5 and Greece 3.185/40 as value to qualify from their groups, and Argentina and Germany as good bets for the outright market (both, of course, remain in contention).

The fourth piece advised Costa Rica 2.546/4 and Belgium 1.9420/21 as lays in normal time in their second round ties, while the most recent column suggested Germany 2.6413/8 and Argentina 2.245/4 to win in normal time, and Netherlands 1.548/15 as a lay in normal time in their quarter-final matches.

In all, Jack's World Cup columns have made 11 recommended bets; eight have won, two are yet to settle with only England's failure to qualify spoiling the party.

Jack also turned his stats-based research to Wimbledon for us and his finding that non-British wildcards often outperformed the market produced some nice winners as Marcos Baghdatis won his opening match and Jiri Vesely got to the third round, where he was knocked out by eventual quarter-finalist Nick Kyrgios, the third of the wildcard tips.  

On to Formula One and it was a profitable debut for Betfair's very own F1 buff, Besart Krasniqi, with three successful tips from four in his British Grand Prix preview - and only one place off a full house with top six recommendation, Kevin Magnussen, ending up seventh.

Besart backed Lewis Hamilton to win on home turf at 1.625/8, Valtteri Bottas for a Podium Finish at 3.55/2 and a safety car to be used at 1.9210/11, meaning an overall profit of 3.04 points.

On to golf where Mike Norman landed a winner in his Double Delight column as Robert Karlsson was placed at 40/1 in Paris along with Brendon Todd in West Virginia at 25/1, a return of 20.79 points on the suggested 0.5 point stake. This meant an overall profit of 4.79 points on the week's selections.

Finishing with racing where it was another profitable week for 80/20 tipster Nick Shiambouros with Alzanti winning at Newbury on Thursday as advised at 5.95/1 and Chosen One doing the business at Ayr on Sunday, as tipped at 4.57/2 (Betfair SP was 5.87n/a).
