Cross-Sport Multiple: Back Germany for World Cup glory

Germany will celebrate a fourth World Cup triumph

Andrew Hughes thinks Germany will be too strong for Argentina in the World Cup showpiece and will help land a Sunday cross-sport multiple.

Bet 1: Back Germany to beat Argentina at 2.35/4

The last time these two met in a World Cup final, in 1990, they produced an absolute stinker, but I think their 2014 clash will have more in common with the classic they served up in 1986 when Maradona inspired Argentina to a 3-2 victory.

Lionel Messi hasn't quite lived up to his illustrious predecessor, and will need more support from his team-mates against a team that was imperious in their semi-final.

Germany's passing and movement has been second to none in this tournament, they have multiple goal-scoring options and they can hold their own if a game turns physical. Their high defensive line is a potential weakness, but I don't think Argentina have the pace to exploit it and a fourth German World Cup win is on the cards.

Bet 2: Back Yorkshire to beat Derbyshire at 1.330/100

Derbyshire have the worst Twenty20 record in English cricket. For eight consecutive seasons, they've exited the domestic Twenty20 Cup at the group stage and with just one win from eleven outings this year, they will be extending that record.

Yorkshire's record isn't particularly impressive either, but they did finish as runners-up two years ago and stayed in contention for a top four spot in the North Division by crushing Durham on Friday evening. They have one of the world's best Twenty20 batsmen in Aaron Finch, and even without their England stars Joe Root and Gary Balance, they are strong in every department. Back the Vikings to bag the points.

Bet 3: Back Shelby Rogers to beat Andrea Petkovic at 4.03/1

On paper the final of the Nurnberger Gastein WTA tournament looks a mismatch. Andrea Petkovic is ranked in the world's top twenty, with three WTA titles to her name, whereas her young American opponent is still outside the top 100.

But Shelby Rogers is a rapidly improving player and this looks like being her breakthrough tournament. She had to play two qualifying matches just to reach the main draw, but has gone from strength to strength, beating third seed Carla Suarez Navarro to reach the last eight, and then overcoming number two seed Sara Errani in the semi-final. She has never played Petkovic before and that surprise factor could give her the edge. Back the American to pull off another shock.
