Star of the season... Harry Kane in celebration mood
New Tottenham hero Harry Kane can do no wrong with an England call looking certain to come after Roy Hodgson watched his North London derby heroics. Ralph Ellis thinks he could be a contender for a double PFA honour too.
There's only one question left about Mauricio Pochettino's decision to put his faith in Harry Kane - why did it take him so long?
The 21-year-old now has 12 Premier League goals against his name this season, which is pretty remarkable considering he didn't get his first until November 2 when his free kick clinched a 2-1 win at Aston Villa.
Until then, despite scoring six goals in five Europa League matches and two more in the Capital One Cup, he had clearly not yet won over Tottenham's manager. His appearances had been limited to just 75 minutes of action off the bench in the League - plus one full game at Arsenal. And when he finished the away version of the North London derby without scoring, Pochettino obviously decided he still wasn't ready.
Different story after North London derby part two. Kane is now the leader, the boy whose phenomenal work rate and ability both in the air and on the ground sets the tone for the rest of the side.
With 22 goals in all competitions already, the 6ft 2ins striker is a shoo-in for the PFA's Young Player of the Year award. And the more he carries on, the more he just might be a collect the big one as well.
In a season where there is no obvious candidate to be PFA Player of the Year, if Kane keeps on scoring he might just have a chance. Somebody got 3 matched at 120.0119/1 earlier in the season, by now his odds are spread between 8.27/1 and 20.019/1.
Cesc Fabregas is the current 3.814/5 favourite and has unquestionably made a brilliant contribution in helping Chelsea build their commanding lead at the top of the table. But while he has been a key figure in a team of established stars, Kane is dragging one club up almost on his own.
He is also acting as a beacon for other young English players to prove that if you are good enough, you can force your way through, however much money your club has thrown on foreign imports.
It is Kane's work rate that has rubbed off to help Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela start to fulfil their own undoubted potential. It also seems to have encouraged Pochettino to put more and more faith in other young stars from the club's Academy like Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb, whose energy was so essential to nullifying the Gunners' midfield this weekend.
Of course there are big tests to come. In the league tomorrow's away trip to Liverpool is followed later in the month by another London derby against West Ham and Spurs still have much to do to achieve their ambition of finishing above their North London neighbours for the first time since 1995.
But if Kane goes on leading the way then his case to be made Player of the Year will become more and more irresistible.
Until Cristiano Ronaldo won both awards in 2007, it used to be considered pretty much impossible. Only Andy Gray 30 years earlier had ever done it before. But then Gareth Bale achieved the double honour in 2013 and now the stage is set for another Spurs prodigy to make some history.
