Potential FA Cup fifth round upsets

Jordan Rhodes can lead Blackburn to the quarter-finals

The fourth round of the FA Cup was one of the most dramatic in the competition's history but can the fifth round be even better?

We had Premier League leaders Chelsea going out to League One Bradford after taking a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge. Also there was Manchester City crashing out at the hands of Championship side Middlesbrough at the Etihad. It also saw Manchester United needing a replay against League Two Cambridge United after the minnows fought to a goalless draw at the Abbey Stadium.

After the excitement of round four, is there any scope for potential shocks on FA Cup fifth round weekend?

Bradford could fancy their chances of taking another Premier League scalp when they host Sunderland at Valley Parade. The Bantams have shown in recent seasons they can beat top-flight opposition in front of a packed-out home crowd in the cup, and face a Sunderland side scrapping for their Premier League status. With confidence high in Phil Parkinson's side - and Gus Poyet already bringing the excuses after slamming the state of the pitch - Sunderland won't be looking forward to the game and will have to fight for their lives at Valley Parade.

Middlesbrough's reward for their exploits at the Etihad was another tough away day, this time against Arsenal at the Emirates. It was not a kind draw for Aitor Karanka's men against the current FA Cup holders. After the shocks of round four, the Gunners are probably favourites for the cup, but Boro are flying high in the Championship and could potentially repeat their heroics of the last round.

Blackburn knocked out Premier League side Swansea in round four and will not be over-awed when Stoke City come to Ewood Park. They are enjoying a good season in the Championship and possess the firepower to cause problems for Mark Hughes' men. Stoke avoided an upset against Rochdale in the last round and Hughes looks to be taking the FA Cup seriously, but that victory was marred by a bad injury to star-man Bojan Krkic.

League One promotion-chasers Preston will welcome Manchester United to Deepdale and will look to cause more cup headache for Louis van Gaal. After United's League Cup exit to MK Dons and struggles against both Yeovil and Cambridge, Preston will realise they have a real chance to trouble United.

The Lilywhites stunned cup experts Sheffield United in round four and Simon Grayson will look forward to testing his managerial nous against Van Gaal. When Leeds manager in League One, Grayson masterminded an FA Cup victory at Old Trafford - so could he pull off another surprise, this time on home turf, with Preston? United have tended to be hit-and-miss in recent weeks, struggling for goals and still looking susceptible at the back. This is possibly the best time for Preston to face them.

Elsewhere in the fifth round, there are three all-Premier League games as Crystal Palace face Liverpool, Aston Villa take on Leicester and West Brom play West Ham. Possibly the biggest chance for an upset in those games comes at Selhurst Park as Liverpool haven't enjoyed facing the Eagles recently. Palace claimed a dramatic 3-3 draw at Selhurst Park at the end of last season, which effectively ended the Reds' title ambitions, and beat them again in south London back in November. They have done well since Alan Pardew's arrival, so confidence will be high. Finally, there is one all-Championship tie as high-flying Derby take on Reading.
