Against All Odds: Ponte Preta to keep the goals flowing

Expect plenty of goal celebrations tonight

It's Brazilian action for Paul Robinson tonight as he thinks that the Serie B clash between Ponte Preta and Parana will be full of goals...

Ponte Preta v Parana
Wednesday October 1, 00:30 BST

Following a disappointing relegation from the Campeonato last season, Ponte Preta are flying high at the top of the second tier after 26 matches. A run of five straight victories has moved them to first and with four clubs earning promotion, they have an excellent chance of bouncing straight back.

The goals have been flowing in recent weeks for Guto Ferreira's side and with 43 scored this term, they are the second highest scorers in the entire division. They put five past Oeste 10 days ago, and since then, they won 3-0 at Vila Nova before beating Ceara 3-1 at the weekend.

Parana are 14th in the table having picked up 31 points from a possible 78. While that is only a relatively modest return, they at least have a seven point cushion between themselves and the relegation zone.

As far as the goals go, with 28 scored and 32 conceded, their matches this season are averaging 2.31 goals each time. A total of 11 have ended up going over 2.5 goals - six over 3.5 - and it is worth noting that their last five scorelines on the road have been 2-1, 2-3, 3-0, 1-0 and 3-1.

There's no stopping Ponte Preta right now and while they are capable of racking up all of the four goals we need, I certainly wouldn't rule out the visitors from finding the net themselves. That's why, with under 3.5 goals trading at around the 1.392/5 mark, I have to make it my lay of the day.
