European Football: Five betting pointers from last weekend's action

Sevilla are gunning for Barcelona and co.

After Real Madrid blew the Spanish title race wide open with victory against Barcelona, it's time to get your money some more unlikely La Liga contenders, says Louis Massarella, in his fistful of football flutters from Europe's big leagues...

Lille to sneak into Top 3

They may have lost three of their four league games, perhaps distracted by their Europa League exerts, and they're certainly missing Salomon Kalou's goals, but Lille are still only four points off third place, a position they occupied last season. With no clear favourite to join Marseille and PSG in the top three, Lille look great value at 5.49/2.

Dortmund to draw at Bayern

Things are going from bad to worse for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, with defeat at home to Hamburg leaving them just above the relegation zone. But they have been impressive against seemingly stronger teams in the Champions League, suggesting an ability to raise their game when required. Dortmund beat Bayern in the German Super Cup at the start of the season, but a draw is more realistic in next weekend's Klassiker in Munich, even if 4.84/1 suggests otherwise.

Napoli nick it against Roma

After a shaky start the season, Napoli have started to find some form, as the 6-2 win against Verona this weekend proved. Roma missed the chance to put pressure on Juventus at the top of the table last weekend, and have won just once in their last five games in all competitions, so a Napoli win might tempt you at 2.0811/10.

Celta Vigo to draw again on the road

You would expect a reaction from Barcelona at the Nou Camp after last weekend's humbling in the clasico, but Luis Enrique is unlikely to get an easy ride from his former charges, who are unbeaten in their four away games, with three scoring draws. Suddenly, 21.020/1 for a 1-1 Correct Score looks good.

Somebody else to 'do an Atletico'

Atletico Madrid upset all the odds to break up the Bara-Madrid duopoly last season; what chance somebody else other than the big two snatching the Primera Division title this time around? Not much, as odds of 150.0149/1 for Sevilla and 75.074/1 for Valencia suggest, but that's not to say it won't happen, with both right in the mix at the moment.
