Against All Odds: No luck for Shamrock at the Drogs

The Guinness will be flowing in Drogheda's last home game of the season

It's Irish action for Paul Robinson this evening as he thinks that Shamrock Rovers have to be opposed at odds-on for their trip to Drogheda.

Drogheda v Shamrock Rovers
Friday October 17, 19:45 BST

Drogheda are ninth of 12 in the Airtricity Premier Division with just two games to go. They can't finish any lower, but with only two points covering the teams in sixth to ninth, they could make it into the top half and better last season's eighth place finish.

Damien Richardson's side come into this game on the back of two defeats, but they came against Cork and St Patrick's, who are second and third respectively. Both were by a single goal margin and prior to that, they'd actually gone five unbeaten - winning three and drawing two.

Shamrock Rovers missed an opportunity to throw a spanner in the title race during the week as they failed to convert a penalty in a draw at leaders, Dundalk. It was still an impressive result, but it ended their chances of finishing in the top three.

Pat Fenlon's men have lost just one of their last nine but they only recorded four victories during that period - all of them coming on home turf at the Tallaght Stadium. The Hoops haven't won since the middle of July on the road - a spell of six fixtures - and they failed to score more than once in all of them.

Neither club have that much to play for but Drogheda at least have home advantage. That's why, with Shamrock Rovers trading at around the 1.9210/11 mark, I have to make them my lay of the day.
