Resurgent Venus set to conquer...
After defeating world number one and younger sister Serena Williams, Abelson Info evaluate whether or not Venus Williams has enough left to go all the way in Montreal...
The WTA legend is now through to her 74th WTA Final, and having defeated the likes of Kerber, Navarro and now Serena this week, she is undoubtedly making a believer out of all of her critics again.
Her younger sibling conceded that "big sister taught little sister a lesson", and with a return to the top 20 on the horizon, things are looking up for Venus after a successful year so far.
However, she will not have time to dwell on her first win over Serena in five years, as her focus will now immediately shift to the final on Sunday where she faces Agnieszka Radwanska.
The Polish ace got her revenge in the semi-finals with a win over Ekaterina Makarova, with the Russian dumping her out of both the US Open and Wimbledon earlier this season.
Nevertheless, the third seed was in no mood to allow a repeat and although she was forced to come through with two tie-breakers, she continued to display a consistent level of tennis which saw her limit her unforced errors to just fourteen.
As a result, it sets up an intriguing final between two vastly experienced players on the tour, and with Serena out of the picture it will undoubtedly be a refreshing change for many fans watching on.
Venus leads Radwanska 5-3 in their head-to-head record, but the latter will look at the last two meetings in which she has won in straight sets on both occasions and looked relatively untroubled throughout.
However, this is a completely different player on the opposite side of the net this time round, with Williams enjoying a significant renaissance this year that proves she still has plenty to offer moving forward.
Having won in Dubai back in February, Williams will want to add to her collection for the year starting in Montreal, with her run to the quarter-finals in Stanford showing that she isn't here by fluke.
Naturally, it won't be easy against Radwanska, but the fact is that the 25-year-old has struggled to convert her strong performances into titles this year, and having been to the last four and finals on a regular basis, she has a hurdle of sort to overcome in her own mind first.
Combine that with an in-form and dangerous Williams sending crushing ground-strokes back at her trying to push the tempo and make her scrabble, the signs do suggest that this could be a throwback week for the American.
However, Radwanska won't go without a fight and we envisage this to be an enthralling final between two world class players.
