Corinthians fans have to entertain themselves a lot of the time
Corinthians do not tend to play the game in the right spirit, advises Tobias Gourlay
The force was not with them: MyPa 0 HJK Helsinki 1 in Finland yesterday.
A goal just before half-time briefly raised hopes of getting the game Over 2.5, but, despite Mr Mikael Forssell's best efforts for the visitors, there were none further.
The same scoreline would be just fine this evening in Brazil, where Mano Menezes returned to Corinthians at the beginning of the current Campeonato season.
Since his return 10 of the Sao Paulo club's 12 league games have ended with Under 2.5 Goals. The performances might not give president Mario Gobbi much to shout about, but the end results have been good. Second in the table, they've conceded half as many goals as first-placed Cruzero, but scored only 15 (Cruzero have struck 28 times already).
Go back beyond Menezes and you'll find that since the beginning of the 2012 season 35/43 Corinthians away matches have finished with two goals or fewer.
Tonight the People's Club go to Coritiba, who are pretty restrained themselves. Fourteen of their most recent 22 outings at Couto Pereira have stayed below the goals line. In five matches this term they have scored and conceded at rates of less than a goal a game.
The national team could learn something from both of them.
