Rumours: City told Barkley will cost ВЈ60million

Is Ross Barkley a 60million pound man?

Manchester City have reportedly been sniffing around Ross Barkley for a while now and today the local paper in Manchester is reporting that they'll have to pay 60million for the Everton star.

Manchester City have been told by Everton they will need to break the British transfer record if they want to sign Ross Barkley.

The Premier League champions were linked with a move for the England international during the last transfer window but a UEFA-imposed cap on spending prevented them making a swoop.

However, the Manchester Evening News claims City will return for Barkley in January despite the 20-year-old signing a new four-year deal earlier this season.

Everton are reported to have told City they will need to smash the British transfer record set by Manchester United's purchase of Angel Di Maria to sign Barkley, claiming they want 60million for the midfielder.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Chelsea's hopes of signing Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira have suffered a setback after the German revealed he wants to stay in Spain.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a January move to London but has told German magazine Kicker he does not expect to leave the Bernabeu in the new year.

The Sun claims that Arsenal will switch their attention away from Khedira should he decide against a January move, with Sevilla's defensive midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak their second choice.

The 24-year-old has only been in Spain since the summer after joining from French side Reims but the Gunners are reported to be prepared to trigger his 24million release clause.

As well as improving their squad, Arsenal could also be looking to move some players on in January, with Inter Milan linked with Joel Campbell in the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Italian giants will launch an ambitious raid on north London in the next transfer window as they look to snap up Costa Rica international Campbell on loan and also Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches on a permanent deal.

Moving on to Old Trafford and United will target PSV Eindhoven forward Memphis Depay in January, according to the Metro.

Depay's Dutch club have admitted defeat in their attempts to keep the Netherlands international and United are willing to pay the 18million needed to secure the man dubbed 'the Dutch Cristiano Ronaldo'.

Finally, and United will step up their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte after Arsenal and Chelsea also took an interest.

The Daily Mirror claims Louis van Gaal is eager to bring in the 20-year-old to help ease his defensive worries and wants to tie up a deal in January before the Gunners and Blues can snap him up.
