Rumours: Lampard to extend City loan deal

Sami Khedira is reportedly set for a move to Bayern Munich

Sami Khedira is set to spurn the Premier League for Bayern Munich and Frank Lampard is ready to stay in England at the Etihad for a bit longer. 

According to the Mirror, Manchester United are preparing a January bid for unsettled Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgium international has found opportunities limited at White Hart Lane this season under new manager Mauricio Pochettino and the 27-year-old is said to considering his options.

Vertonghen has reportedly fallen out with the Argentine boss after the former Southampton head coach is rumoured to be unhappy with the attitude of the defender.

Manchester United are hoping to take full advantage of the situation and the Red Devils are weighing up a move as Louis van Gaal looks to add some much-needed reinforcements.

The Dutchman has already seen summer signing Marcos Rojo demoted to the treatment table after picking up an injury and the need for an experienced defender is a must.

Sticking with the Red Devils, there could be more good news for the United faithful after Talksport have suggested that Kevin Strootman has already "shaken hands" on a move from Roma.

The Dutch international knows Van Gaal very well with the pair having worked together on the international scene and the midfielder has been a target for the former Premier League champions for some time.

A move is now expected to take place in the summer as the rebuilding process at Old Trafford continues to take place following a dreadful campaign in 2013/14.

The former England international joined the Citizens on a temporary deal this season from New York City and the midfielder has enjoyed a regular run in the team.

Injury has seen Lampard miss recent games for City but the performances have impressed Manuel Pellegrini so much that an extension to the loan deal is expected.

The move is also being considered in order to cover for Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure, who is heading off to play in the African Cup of Nations in January.
