Atltico Paranaense can still finish their season on a high
It's that time of the week where Paul Robinson selects a home win, an away win, a match to go over 2.5 goals and a match to go under 2.5 goals. Here are his selections...
Bet 1: Atletico PR (HOME) @ 2.1 (11/10)
It's been a mixed campaign for Atletico PR as while they haven't been able to match the heights of last year, they are safely positioned in mid-table and could still achieve a top eight finish.
While Claudinei Oliveira's side come into this game on the back of a disappointing defeat to Sport Recife, their form prior to that was excellent - five wins out of six - and they've only lost four matches at home all year, nine of which were victories.
Santos' quest for a Copa Libertadores place has now ended after a spell of taking just one point from a possible 15. They have also exited the Copa do Brasil and their season is petering out in a disappointing fashion.
Even in normal circumstances they don't have the greatest away record, so with nothing to play for tonight, I can't see Enderson Moreira's players covering themselves in glory.
Bet 2: Corinthians (AWAY) @ 1.95 (19/20)
Corinthians are locked in a five way battle for two Copa Libertadores places as only three points separates third to seventh. Mano Menezes' team are fifth so they still have plenty of work to do but they come into this fixture on the back of a six match unbeaten run - four of which were wins.
During that period they beat Vitoria and Santos at home, as well as recording victories at Internacional and most recently Bahia. Goias isn't the easiest place to go to, but they will be highly motivated to win, and that, plus their extra class, should give them the edge.
Factor in that their opponents have nothing to play for and that they've lost three of their last four outings and you will start to see why they are a tempting price, despite being odds-on.
Bet 3: Vitoria BA v Coritiba (Over 2.5 goals) @ 2.15 (23/20)
This is a huge match down at the bottom of the Campeonato as both teams are hovering above the relegation zone.
There is an argument to be made that the pair of them would settle for a point tonight but I don't hold that view as that wouldn't be enough so I expect both teams to go all out for the win.
That should lead to goals and with Vitoria's matches already averaging 2.41 goals each time and Coritiba's 2.21, securing the three goals we need shouldn't be too much of a push.
It's also worth considering that six of the host's last seven at home have rewarded over 2.5 backers, as have the visitor's last five on the road.
Bet 4: Criciuma v Bahia (Under 2.5 goals) @ 1.61 (8/13)
Criciuma are rooted to the foot of the table and with only four games to go, the seven point gap to safety will surely prove too big a challenge. The problem has been in front of goal for the 'Tiger' as with just 24 scored, they have the worst attacking record in the entire division. They've netted just once in their last three on home soil and they come into this fixture on the back of six straight defeats.
Opponents, Bahia, are also in grave danger of going down themselves. They are just one place and one point above Criciuma, and again, their problem has been scoring goals.
Gilson Kleina's side have managed just 26 so far this term and they've fired three blanks in their last four away from home. Even if they score tonight I can't see it being more than once and similar applies to the opposition.
