Manchester United are reportedly lining up Edinson Cavani and Thomas Muller to replace Robin van Persie at Old Trafford next summer.

French publication Le Figaro is reporting that Dutch hitman van Persie will be allowed to leave the club at the end of the season following a string of below-par performances.

The former Arsenal man has managed three goals so far this term and United boss Louis van Gaal is considering whether to persist with the 31-year-old or look for a replacement.

Arsenal are desperate to try and bolster their defensive options over the next two transfer windows, with Basel centre-half Fabian Schar the latest name to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
