Against All Odds: Goalless in Seattle

It's Stateside action tonight

The MLS Play-offs are in full swing and Paul Robinson is taking the second leg between Seattle and Dallas to be low-scoring.

Seattle v Dallas
Tuesday 11 November, 03:30 GMT

The Seattle Sounders topped the Western Conference during the regular season and they are in a good position to make it through to the Conference Finals after drawing the first leg of their semi in Texas. With just two defeats in 14 at CenturyLink Field, the odds are that they will progress and they are prime contenders to win the whole thing.

It's the goal-side of things we're focusing on here though and while their matches during the league phase were averaging 3.82 goals each time, there is much more pressure on them now. Keeping it tight at the back will be paramount in their minds and it's actually worth noting that three of their last four have finished with two goals or fewer.

Opponents, Dallas, have it all to do tonight. A 1-1 first leg result does at least keep them in the tie, but they travel to a stadium that they haven't won at since 2011. Their away record isn't that great either as prior to a 1-0 victory at Colorado last month, The Hoops had lost four straight games on the road.

As far as the goals go, three of their last four have rewarded over 2.5 layers and scar Pareja will probably set up his team to defend initially, before looking to threaten at the other end once the match has settled down. Away from the Toyota Stadium they haven't conceded more than twice in any of their last 14 and they kept five clean sheets during that period.

I expect this to be a bit of a tense affair and the score could remain goalless for quite a while. That's why, with over 2.5 goals trading at around the 1.824/5 mark, I have to make it my lay of the day.
