Edinson Cavani is being linked with a whopping 55million move to Arsenal

Are Arsenal really going to splash over 50million on a striker? Well according to one newspaper they are 'considering it' - Alex Johnson explains all.

Arsenal are considering a club-record 55m bid for wantaway PSG striker Edinson Cavani, according to the Metro.

The Gunners and other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea, were linked with Cavani throughout the summer transfer window, with the player thought to be unhappy in Paris.

The Uruguay striker is believed to be frustrated at being played out of position by Laurent Blanc and, according to the latest reports, Arsenal are closely monitoring his situation.

However, Arsene Wenger's side would have to smash their transfer record to sign Cavani with PSG valuing the 27-year-old at 55m.

Jermain Defoe could be set to make a swift return to the Premier League after Toronto CEO Tim Leiweke admitted he may leave in January.

The former England forward moved to the MLS franchise from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year on a four-year contract but is reportedly unsettled in Canada.

Leiweke said talks over "what happens during the next transfer window" will be held in December.

Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp is a long-term admirer of Defoe and failed in a move for the 32-year-old over the summer while West Ham United have also been linked with their former striker.

Another player who could be returning to England in the near future is PSG midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

The former Newcastle United star is unhappy with the amount of playing time he has received since his 19million switch in January, with just 13 starts in Ligue 1 under his belt.

Cabaye revealed he is "not satisfied with the situation" and admitted he has thought about a possible return to the Premier League.

According to the Daily Mail the news is expected to interest to Arsenal who were linked with the Frenchman before he joined PSG, while the Gunners are also in the need of midfield reinforcements after losing Mesut Ozil to a serious knee injury.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman after club owner James Pallotta issued a hands-off warning.

Strootman worked under Louis van Gaal during his reign as Netherlands coach and the United boss was expected to return with a 75m bid for the playmaker in January after having an offer knocked back in the summer.

The Daily Star claims Liverpool will not look to loan out Fabio Borini in January despite interest from Inter Milan, Sunderland and QPR, while Spurs defender Younes Kaboul is being tracked by Lazio and Fiorentina.
