Against All Odds: Boca to cause upset at El Monumental

Expect a passionate affair

Forget your Premier League, La Liga and Serie A matches this weekend, today is all about the Superclsico as River Plate host Boca Juniors.

River Plate have pretty much carried all before them in the last six months or so as after storming to the Torneo Final back in May, they have begun this new campaign with six wins and three draws. They are the only unbeaten team in the division and with a three point gap at the top, it's hard to envisage anything other than the title coming back to El Monumental.

You can throw all that out the window this evening though as this is the Superclsico. It's hard to put into words the intensity of the crowd and while it will only be the home support in attendance, every single player will surely be inspired.

Marcelo Gallardo's side won't get this all their own way and they've actually drawn their last two outings. Both of those were away and although they've won their last 12 league matches in front of their own fans, they needed penalties to beat both Ferro Carril Oeste and Colon in the Copa Argentina. It's also worth noting that the last meeting between this pair on this ground ended in a 1-0 win for the away team.

Boca Juniors finished as runners up to 'Los Millonarios' in last year's second semester but they started the new campaign in disappointing fashion. A trio of defeats in their opening quartet of fixtures spelt the end for Carlos Bianchi and Rodolfo Arruabarrena was appointed as his replacement.

Since the 39 year olds arrival at the club, 'Xeneizes' have taken 10 points from a possible 15 - their sole defeat coming at home to Racing Club. They have also eased past Rosario Central in the Copa Sudamericana and they will be coming into this game high on confidence.

Despite their struggles under the old regime, Boca have actually only lost one of their last nine away from La Bombonera and that includes victories at Tigre and Gimnasia La Plata. Considering we don't even need them to win this evening, the fact that they've been so easily dismissed by the Betfair market is a puzzling one.

This isn't a game to be missed - and you don't have to as it's on Betfair Live Video. Those tuning in will see one of the best spectacles in world football and those who oppose the hosts will get decent value for money. That's why, at around the 1.75/7 mark, I have to make River Plate my lay of the day.
