WTA Coupe Rogers 2014 Betting: In-form Wozniacki to challenge Serena Williams

Can Wozniacki stop Serena... Can Wozniacki stop Serena...

We've reached the quarter-final stage in Montreal, and Abelson Info are back to guide us through Friday's encounters...

The top seeds continued to tumble out of the tournament on Thursday, most notably both Maria Sharapova and Petra Kvitova suffered surprising defeats.

Nevertheless, the Williams sisters march on, as does Victoria Azarenka, but the trio all face difficult opposition in the next round with all three matches possibly serving up some great tennis.

World number one Serena Williams is now on a six-match winning streak as she looks to build on her tournament success in Stanford last week, but her opponent is in equally good form and appears to be capable of at least giving her a significant test.

Wozniacki is on an eight-match winning streak of her own as she looks to put her troubles both on and off the court behind her in order to get back to the level of tennis that took her to the top of the world rankings not so long ago.

The Dane has lost just six games through three matches so far this week, and although her head-to-head record with Williams doesn't make for reassuring reading, she has beaten the American on this surface previously, so she is aware of what it requires.

However, that victory came two years ago in Miami but although Williams has won all four of their other meetings on hard courts and is naturally a huge favourite to prevail, Wozniacki looks in the mood to make this encounter competitive.

Elsewhere, eighth seed Azarenka is into her first quarter-final since the Australian Open as she demonstrated a level of consistency against Heather Watson that has been missing since her return from injury.

Although the British hopeful put up more of a fight than she has done in previous meetings, Azarenka looked in control for the majority of the clash and will now face Agnieszka Radwanska.

The Polish ace was a break down in the third set to Sabine Lisicki, but after winning five of the last six games during which she converted five of six break points, she is undoubtedly up for the challenge in Montreal.

While she may take confidence from the fact that she beat Azarenka in Melbourne earlier this year in three sets, it shouldn't mask the fact that she trails 12-4 in their head-to-head.

However, this is difficult to call, as there is no telling whether or not Azarenka will be able to continue her form and maintain that consistency which has got her this far. If she is capable of doing that, then back the Belarusian to progress.

Meanwhile, Venus Williams continues her resurgence but will likely find it tough-going against Sharapova's conqueror, Carla Suarez Navarro, while Coco Vandeweghe is enjoying a memorable run in Canada, and the American will fancy her chances of upsetting the odds against Ekaterina Makarova.
