This is the only guy who thinks Sport Huancayo will win tonight
It's three winners out of five so far this week, and Kevin Hatchard keeps us in South America as he looks for more profit.
It's always nice to wake up to a winner (my wife would tell you I've been doing that for years), and it was delightful to discover that Ceara did us proud last night. Our aged poster-boy Magno Alves lived up to the hype with a second-half double in a 2-0 win at Atletico GO, giving us victory on the Asian Handicap.
I've told the pilot to take us to Peru, but there won't be time for wandering up the Inca Trail, I'm afraid. It's the Primera Division for us, and a 19:00 clash between Sport Huancayo and Cienciano.
Sport have had a pretty tough start to the campaign. They are rock bottom of the 16-team division after ten matches, with just one win, one draw and eight defeats. An atrocious defensive record appears to be at the heart of the problems for the Rojo Matador - Sport Huancayo have shipped a league-high 28 goals, an average of nearly three per game. They are yet to win at their Estadio Huancayo, picking up a solitary point in front of their own fans.
So, if Sport Huancayo are the 2.568/5 favourites to win this game, their opponents Cienciano must be pretty bad, right? Well...no, not really. The boys from Cusco (seventh in the table) are on great form, winning five and drawing two of their last seven league matches. Mario Viera's team isn't packed with prolific scorers, but the defence is solid, with four clean sheets recorded in the last seven outings.
So, are Cienciano dodgy on the road? Erm...no. Of their five road games in the league, they have lost just once, with two wins and two draws. The only reason I can find for making the home side favourites is that Sport Huancayo won the clubs' last meeting - a 2-1 victory in Cusco in the Copa Inca. Bar that, it appears difficult to support a home win. You could back the visitors outright at 2.767/4, but I'm going to give myself a little insurance and back Cienciano Draw No Bet at 2.0621/20. That bet returns the stake if Sport use whatever mysterious factor is driving this market, and somehow grind out a draw.
