Big Saturday Multiple: Back Cobblers to carry on where they left off

Northampton Town will be eyeing promotion this year

It's the day we've all been waiting for. Football is back. Well, the bottom three divisions, anyway - but there's plenty of value to be had...

Sheffield United have made a series of impressive signings this summer, and they will be on show at Bramall Lane this afternoon, as the South Yorkshire club host Bristol City.

Nigel Clough's side won their final three home games last season, and that is a return which will give them much confidence as they bid to return to the Championship this time out.

The Blades capped a decent pre-season campaign with a 2-1 defeat of Turkish side Fenerbahce last week, and will be desperate to continue that good form as the face Steve Cotterill's City.

The visitors head north with a patchy record on the road - just five wins from 16 away from Ashton Gate indicating that they might struggle in this one.

And, having done the double over their guests last season, the hosts will be confident of starting the season with three valuable points.

Over to the capital for our next selection, as Leyton Orient welcome Chesterfield to the Matchroom Stadium in League One.

The O's have enjoyed spending some new-found cash following investment in the summer, and hat's off to Russell Slade - he's bagged some proper players at this level.

Darius Henderson, for a start, is a proven Championship striker - and alongside Jay Simpson, should provide the goals to fire the East London club to the second tier, following their narrow failure last time.

Orient only lost one of their final five encounters during the previous campaign, and that was against Rotherham United in the play-off final penalty shootout. They will be desperate for a win here to pick themselves up in style.

Chesterfield make the trip south having won the League Two title last year, but have not managed to make the splash in the transfer market that they might have liked.

Marc Richards has left the Proact Stadium and moved to Northampton Town, and that has left boss Paul Cook a little light of options up top - with Eoin Doyle and Armand Gnanduillet the only forwards on the club's books.

A mixed bag of a pre-season has seen the Spireites fail to win four of their seven practice games, and I reckon that they might struggle against one of the title favourites this afternoon.

And finally, to the Sixfields Stadium, where Northampton Town line up against Mansfield on their own patch.

I really fancy the hosts to do well this year. Since taking over just after Christmas, boss Chris Wilder has pulled the from the brink, and made some seriously smart signings this summer too.

In total, 11 players coming in, and just one leaving, which means that Wilder's squad is much stronger than it was when he first arrived.

Football-wise, the Cobblers find themselves in good form, too. Five undefeated from their last half a dozen underlines just how strong their core is, and they will be very difficult to beat here - particularly on their own turf, where they have lost just three from 10.

Mansfield make the trip down the M1 looking to build on an up and down first campaign back in the football league - and boss Paul Cox will be keen for his side to show a little more consistency.

The Stags managed just a single win from their last four league games last time out, shipping six goals, but did show glimpses of potential across last season.

Eight signings have arrived in the East Midlands over the summer, and the visitors have enjoyed a decent pre-season - unbeaten in four outings - but I just feel like the momentum of Northampton will be too much for them to halt.

Bet 3: Northampton Town (HOME) @ 2.26/5
