Rumours: Arsenal, Chelsea, United all in for West Ham kid

Steven Gerrard is still wanted by Liverpool

Plenty of transfer rumours today but once more the Steven Gerrard saga leads the way.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers wants to keep captain Steven Gerrard purely for his footballing ability, rather than for sentiment.

Rodgers has told the Daily Telegraph that the Reds legend is still wanted on Merseyside and is part of his plans.

The former England international admitted last week that he would leave Anfield - and play on elsewhere - if he was not offered another contract at the end of the current campaign.

Gerrard is out of contract in July and his comments alerted several clubs, including Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini admitted on Sunday that he would be interested in his services, but Gerrard looks set to stay put, with Rodgers eager to tie him down to a new deal.

Elsewhere, Arsenal may make a move for Basel defender Fabian Schar after the Swiss international admitted he would leave for a top European club.

The Daily Express believe a 10million bid will be enough, with Schar, 22, eager to play in the Bundesliga or Premier League.

He told Blick: "Basel are open to negotiations, but at this moment I have decided that I want to concentrate on my performances.

"I need a team with important prospects. I'd like the Bundesliga, Premier League or top Italian clubs like Inter, Milan and Juventus. I couldn't say no."

The same publication also suggest that Manchester United and Manchester City want to sign Feyenoord defender Terence Kongolo.

Kongolo was part of the Netherlands squad under Louis van Gaal and the Red Devils boss is confident he can land his man. However, City have reportedly shown an interest and the two will fight it out in January.

Sky Sports believe that West Ham youngster Reece Oxford is still a long way off signing a professional deal at Upton Park.

Oxford turns 16 in December and he has already captained England Under-17s so far in his short career.

As expected, a number of Premier League clubs are after the centre-back, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all sending scouts to watch him in recent weeks.

Tuttomercatoweb.com insists that Tottenham and Juventus are the two latest teams to show an interest in Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss international is being linked with a move away from Germany once again and several clubs are interested in making a bid in January.

Bayern boss Pep Guardiola asked him to stay in the summer but he has once again played a bit-part role and may want more football ahead of the European Championships in 2016.
